Frequently asked questions
I offer private piano and theory lessons. I teach primarily classical music based on the RCM curriculum and I prepare students for RCM examinations. I do also enjoy teaching students who just want to learn for the joy of it (no exams) whether that be some classical, movie themes, popular music and so on.
From Prep A Level to ARCT (inclusive)
Although most students take lessons once per week, some students do like to take two lessons every week. There is a discounted rate for the second lesson.
–I recommend 30 minute lessons for the young beginner aged 6 years old and up.
–4 and 5 year olds often do not have the attention span for a full 30 minute lesson and for this reason I recommend 15 minutes. If they are able to come twice per week, this usually works well as the student gets two shorter lessons.
–Once students reach RCM Level 1 and beyond, it is important for the student to study theory alongside the repertoire.
For this reason, if a student is following the RCM curriculum, I recommend:
–45 or 60 minute lessons for Level 1 to 5
–60 minutes for Level 6 to ARCT
* Please note that Level 8, 9 ,10 and ARCT students can benefit from 90 minute lessons, especially in the last few weeks leading up to their piano exams.
If you are not following the RCM curriculum and are just learning to play for fun, the length of the lesson is your personal choice.
No worries. Although teaching the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum and preparing students for RCM exams is my forte, it is not all that I offer. Many students just want to learn how to play the piano for the fun of it and want to learn other types of music such as movie or video game themes, or popular music. It's all great. It's music and I can help you with all of those styles.
Yes, however lessons taken on an occasional basis are upon availability within my regular teaching schedule.
If a student is late for a lesson, the lesson will not exceed the allotted time. If you forget about the lesson, consider that lesson lost and paid for. Ample notification is required for any rescheduling to be considered.
